For the tiles industry, the Aspen Digital data team conducted a comprehensive analysis over a three-month period, comparing search results. This applied to both organic search results and paid text ads.

- The number 1 Ctm.co.za (also strong SEA presence) was in first place in this comparison in both June and August and has therefore remained stable;

- The number 4 of June Italtile.co.za (also in the SEA top 5) is still in 4th place;
- Uniontiles.co.za (also in the SEA top 5) has entered the top 5 in fifth position.
The analysis and graphs are based on 559, important search terms within the tiles, which together represent an average monthly search volume of 398.630.
How was the market analyzed?
What is the organic presence percentage?
The presence percentage indicates the percentage of search terms for which your website appears in the top 20 search results. This provides insight into how well your website performs in organic search results.
A weighted average position
The average position is determined by a weighted average. This takes into account the monthly search volume of the search terms. Search terms with a higher search volume carry more weight, making market changes more visible and giving you a better idea of the potential impact on your website traffic.
How is ad presence measured?
Ad presence indicates how often your website appeared in text ads on pages 1 or 2 of Google over a three-month period. This percentage gives an indication of how often your website was visible in ads within this period.
Why a 3-month measurement for SEA?
Given the dynamic nature of ads compared to organic positions, the entire three-month period was used to accurately map the advertising parties.
Ad presence indicates the percentage of times your website was shown over the entire three-month period. Here too, the average position Weighted by search volume, meaning that keywords with higher search volumes have a greater impact on your average position.
Google organic in June
Here you see the 25 websites with the most presence in this industry, based on organic results in Google on 2025-06-26. Only the top 20 results per search term were used to provide the most accurate picture possible and to identify companies actively working to become visible within this keyword category.
The ideal position is shown in the top right of the graph: this means your website is in the top 20 with many search terms and has achieved a good average ranking.
Google organic in August
This is the SEO market three months later compared to the first measurement. By analyzing the situation in August, you can see the medium-term SEO trend within your industry. Think of emerging players gaining market share or established names that are even more firmly established.
More importantly, you can also see how your organic presence and average position have developed compared to your competitors.
To make comparison easier and give you a clear overview, a percentage chart has been added. This shows you at a glance how the positions of different players in your industry have shifted. Whether it is the growth of new players, the consolidation of established names, or a decline, the chart clearly visualizes the trend per website.
Changes in the organic market in 3 months
Here too, the top right is most favorable: the number of search terms in the top 20 has increased with also a better average position. The bottom left is the least favorable, because with fewer search terms in the top 20, you also have a worse position.
In this chart, a positive percentage change in position means that your rankings have improved. Simply put: if you rise from position 2 to position 1, that means a +50% improvement.
Looking at the period (2025-06-26 and 2025-08-26), these are our findings:
Biggest climber
The biggest climber is Uniontiles.co.za, which is now more present in the top 20. The website has a presence change of 5% and an average position change of 28.1%.
The current presence percentage is now 54.9% and the average position is 7.94.
Climbers 2 and 3
The presence change of Smartstone.co.za is -3% and the average position change is 23.7%, resulting in a current average position of 6.41.
Cashbuild.co.za has a presence change of 4% and an average position change of 9.8%, resulting in a current average position of 8.16.
Biggest dropper
The biggest dropper is Ctm.co.za, which is now less present in the top 20. The website has a presence change of 0% and an average position change of -42.2%.
The current presence percentage is now 86.2% and the average position is 2.73.
Droppers 2 and 3
Builders.co.za has a presence change of 2% and an average position change of -20%, resulting in a current average position of 11.74.
Pinterest.com has a presence change of 26% and an average position change of -14.5%, with a current average position of 11.58.
Ad presence
In addition to analyzing the organic Google search results, the corresponding paid text ads were also examined. As you know, the first organic position in Google is the highest achievable, but that (unfortunately) does not necessarily mean your website is immediately visible to searchers.
For this reason, it is interesting to examine which companies are also active in SEA for the same search terms over the entire three-month period. This will give you an even more concrete picture of your visibility in Google for the tiles sector and allow you to identify your biggest competitors more clearly.
